Self Care Series Part 2: Emotional Wellness
Welcome to this 8 part weekly Self Care Series, where we look at 8 key aspects of Self Care.
My Challenge To You: Each week (M-F) take 1 Action Step daily to start paving your 2021 with intentional positive Self Care Habits.
Stress|Emotional Regulation is a big part of our self care success.
Meditation helps with this by getting out of our brains and whatever is going on around us and reminds us that we have the ability and inner power to Self Regulate our stress|emotional state.
Try this one on and set a timer for 30 secs:
Box Breathing
Breathe in for a count of 4
Hold breath for a count of 4
Breath out for a count of 4
Hold breath for a count of 4
Then breathe normally after the 30 seconds is up and notice how you feel from when you started. Notice whatever else you notice in this moment. (Ps: the count of 4 can change to whatever number feel best for your lung capacity).
Crying is good. Determining on how you were brought up it maybe was acceptable for you to cry and that you needed to “toughen up”or something else but crying is necessary. Just like physical movement is a way to release stress, so is crying. Moving through and allowing yourself to feel your emotions is important for healthy humans. It is a way of “cleansing”for your soul.
So when you are feeling overwhelmed go find a good Hallmark movie, grab the Kleenex and let those tears flow.
