What is busy costing you ?
As I sit down to write this newest blog post, I take a couple deep breathes. Because you see…..I am guilty of being that person that is always “busy”. It’s funny really as I sit back and think about how I work my life and how very intentional I have become over this past year with my time.
The beginning of summer I made a commitment to myself to not book anything for the summer so that I could enjoy myself and not “work” the entire time. I mean in Wisconsin we really only get 2 maybe 3 good summery months and my soul needs that sunshine like nobodies business! Vitamin D and me are besties! So I made the commitment and I already had a lot going on don’t get me wrong.
And disclaimer before I go any further, I love all the “work” that I do, that I say ‘Yes’ to. But I am one of those people that Loves to work because I enjoy it and I get to do some really cool shit. I am very blessed.
Moving along…….so I did for the most part follow through with my commitment and I have to say it felt good, really good. I set a very firm boundary for myself and I did indeed get up to my parents cottage more which I love. But then mid-August came and more cool opportunities started coming my way and I started saying yes to August and then into September and then before you know it September’s weekends were completely booked. When I realized what I had once again done to my schedule, I took a step back and asked myself first “Do these things that I am committed to make me happy?………Yes.” Ok next question I asked myself “Does it make you feel constricted in your life and like there isn’t much room to wiggle and play…..Yes.” So some things needed to change yet again with how I was being intentional with my time. I am in the process now of being intentional moving forward with my time and actually restructuring my work schedule so it feels better too!
There are many reasons people can fill their lives with busy, I don’t want to get into all of that (but I very much desire to:), but alot of the time we busy our lives because we feel we ‘have’ to. Whether it’s for fear if we don’t do this event well then someone else will get it or maybe you signed up for something and you feel you need to follow through, even though it’s making you feel frustrated, tired.
First off, you do not HAVE to do anything you do not want to do. If it does not bring you joy and light you up, get the heck out.
Second, when we busy our lives with all the things, we soon realize that we have no time for ourselves, for our family, our friends. And to take it a step further, we are not fully present with people because we are always in our heads thinking about all the things we have to do. Sometimes even getting the smallest of things done like laundry, cleaning the bathroom, getting to the grocery store, etc. Anxiety starts to build as you HAVE NO TIME! (Cue person pulling out their hair picture).
I want to give you permission to say No.
Say No to things that do not light you up inside, that do not make you want to jump for joy. When you start saying No to these things, you are then saying Yes to you. Yes, to taking your power back and for getting back that sacred thing in all of our lives that flies by…….Time.
Time is precious.
How we use it is serious business my friends.
Be Intentional about it.
Quit allowing busy to run your life. You are in control, remember that. Things can wait, people can wait. Your time is valuable and so is your sanity and joy!
So I invite you to take a look at your life and if there is something that you feel you are wanting to detach from in your life, maybe it’s a group you belong to and your soul just isn’t feeling fed by it any longer. I invite you to step away. Life will go on I promise.
Remember, it’s just a choice. Are you ready to choose You?
